6000 dead sturgeons: China put construction bridge stop

China has stopped building a bridge over the Yangtze River. This happened because the work would have led to the deaths of about 6000 endangered Chinese sturgeons.

The construction project in the city of Jingzhou would have affected a nature reserve, reports the newspaper China Daily. The fish were grown in a basin in the river. The dying of the sturgeons would have been caused by the shocks, the noise and the change of the water sources caused by the construction project.

The Chinese sturgeon is about to become extinct due to pollution of the Yangtze, through overfishing and the construction of large hydropower plants.
